Using Essential Oils for Home Fragrance and Wellness - The Complete Guide
Share
Let me start with a question:
Have you ever walked into a space and instantly felt calmer, lighter, or more grounded - just because of how it smelled?
I'm going to guess the answer is yes, and there are likely to be multiple occasions you can think of. That’s the quiet power of scent. And you can create your own sanctuary at home with natural mood-lifting home fragrance, thanks to essential oils.
If you’re just starting your journey into essential oils, this guide will help you understand the what, why, and how of using them to scent your home, and I’ll be sharing my favourite oils to use too.
What Are Essential Oils, Exactly?
Essential oils are concentrated aromatic extracts that are distilled from nature. They can be distilled from flowers, stems, leaves, bark, peel, roots, resins or other parts of a plant. Think of them as the essence, the soul of a plant - packed with natural aroma and therapeutic benefits.
Unlike fragrance oils, which are synthetically made to replicate a scent and often carry toxins or allergens, pure essential oils are 100% natural - perfect for health-conscious, eco-minded homes.
Why Use Essential Oils for Home Fragrance?
A lot of shop bought air fresheners or scented products contain synthetic fragrance blends and petrochemicals.
If you’re house-proud and health-conscious, essential oils give you the best of both worlds:
- 100% natural fragrance
- Mood-boosting and calming properties
-
A luxurious scent experience due to their natural aroma.

How to Use Essential Oils in Your Home
Here are easy, effective ways to use essential oils for scent and wellness:
1. Essential Oil Diffuser
- This is one of my favourites ways to scent any size space.
- Use an electric diffuser, add water + drops of essential oil (the number of drops will depend on the size room [small size; use 3 - 4 drops, a larger room; use up to 8 drops]).
-
Use uplifting oils in the morning like our energise blend, and calming oils like lavender in the evening.
2. Wax Melts Made with Essential Oils
-
A fuss free way to scent your space, these allow you more freedom to change the wax melt scent as desired.
-
Choose wax melts made with pure essential oils and natural wax like soy.
3. Reed Diffusers
-
A low-maintenance, decorative way to diffuse scent 24/7.
-
Just make sure the fragrance blend uses real essential oils.
- Choose a stylish handmade reed diffuser jar.
My Recommendation
There are two methods to helping choose an essential oil blend for you:
- Use the mood enhancing properties to determine which blend could help enhance your wellbeing.
- Use the scent profile to help determine which blend of oils you might like.
Neither is better than the other; you have to like the blend in order to utilise it and reap the wellbeing benefits from it, and you want to choose a blend that will help enhance your wellbeing in an area where you might need that extra help or boost.
My suggestion would be to choose essential oils based on the time of day you are likely to use them. I use the energise blend upon waking as this helps me feel refreshed and ready to start the day. As the day goes on, I begin to switch my oils to more grounding blends, such as the balance blend. When the evening draws and I'm ready to relax, I then opt for a more relaxing, calming blend, the unwind scent being my favourite!
You can shop the blends individually or take advantage of a big saving with the oil collections and try a few!
