How long does a reed diffuser typically last?
In general, a 100ml reed diffuser will last approximately 8-10 weeks. That said, several factors affect how quickly the oil evaporates, including the number of reeds you use (and the material of reeds), the temperature of the room, and how often you flip the reeds.

5 ways to make your reed diffuser last longer
1. Use fewer reeds It might seem counterintuitive, but using fewer reeds slows down evaporation and extends the life of your diffuser. Start with 4–5 reeds and add more if you want a stronger scent.
2. Position it away from direct sunlight and heat Heat speeds up evaporation. Keep your diffuser away from radiators, sunny windowsills and air vents to help the oil last longer.
3. Flip the reeds less often Flipping the reeds gives an immediate burst of fragrance but uses up the oil faster. Once or twice a week is plenty for most rooms.
4. Be wary of what reeds you use A Fibre reeds soak up oils very quickly compared to natural rattan reeds. At Sage & Grace, we only supply natural rattan reeds as they help extend the life of your diffuser.
5. Top up with a refill When your diffuser runs low, don't throw it away, simply top it up with a refill and replace the reeds. It's more sustainable, more economical, and means you never have to go without your favourite scent.
When should you replace the reeds?
Reeds absorb oil over time and can become clogged with dust, reducing their effectiveness. If you notice the scent fading even after flipping, it's time for a fresh set of reeds. As a rule of thumb, replace them every 4-6 months or whenever you switch to a new refill.
